Kansas Adjutant General's Department and the U.S. Geological Survey sign Structures Stewardship Agreement
Kansas Adjutant General's Department and the U.S. Geological Survey sign Structures Stewardship Agreement: A Memorandum of Understand (MOU) was signed on October 1, 2010 establishing joint responsibilities between the Kansas Adjutant General's Department (KSAGD) and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for the stewardship of the National Structures Dataset. The NSD is digital spatial data set comprised of the geospatial location, classification, and other characteristics of manmade buildings and facilities, commonly referred to as structures.
The USGS is the principal civilian agency for geospatial activities and provides a nationally consistent framework for features such as Fire Stations, Hospitals, and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Stations within the National Structures Dataset.
The Adjutant General's Department is responsible for emergency management for all disasters and coordination of recovery and response activities statewide, and homeland security for the State. In support of this mission, the KSAGD is actively collecting and maintaining structure data layers in Kansas.
These two agencies will coordinate to maintain these common structure data layers to provide current, accurate, and consistent structures data to meet the needs of the State of Kansas and the USGS National Structures Dataset.
Points of contact are Jessica Frye for KSAGD, and Ingrid Landgraf for USGS.
